A universal story told in dazzling musical colors, this work for orchestra, choir, and vocal soloists is considered Haydn’s masterpiece. From literal truths to inspiring prose to rip-roaring tales, it is cinematic in its imagery with representations of chaos, roaring lions, the worm’s “sinuous trace,” the florid singing of angels, and the folk-like song of Adam and Eve. Generously underwritten by Johnanna McLaughlin in memory of Charles McLaughlin.
