Santa Fe, New Mexico | Lensic Performing Arts Center presents the esteemed New York Theatre Ballet on Friday, November 11. NYTB has earned national acclaim for its restoration and revival of small masterworks by great choreographers and for its innovative hour-long ballets based on children’s literature.

Founded by Diana Byer in 1978, NYTB welcomed Steven Melendez as artistic director in April of this year. Melendez has a special connection to New Mexico, having worked as the artistic director of NDI New Mexico at The Hiland Theater. Melendez has danced with NYTB since the age of seven, when he became invovled with the company through NYTB’s LIFT Program, which provides year-round scholarships for talented at-risk and underserved children. Byer, who continues to direct the School of New York Theatre Ballet, founded the LIFT Program, which has received accolades for its enduring commitment to its community.

Education & Outreach
With each Lensic Presents performance, the Lensic works to engage with students and community members of all ages to provide educational opportunities and free access to performances. Dance students at New Mexico School for the Arts will attend a free masterclass with NYTB on November 9. Students from local public schools will attend two free matinee performances by NYTB on November 10, part of the Lensic’s PASS (Performing Arts for Student Success) program. In addition, on November 11 at 6:30 pm, Diane Byer will be in discussion with the Lensic’s executive director Joel Aalberts for Program Notes, the Lensic’s pre-performance series.
