Santa Fe, New Mexico | The Lensic Performing Arts Center launches its new Lensic Presents season with two back-to-back shows. On Friday, October 7, acclaimed Canadian folk band The Wailin’ Jennys perform their dreamy, heartfelt melodies.
About Lensic Presents
Since its renovation in 2001, the Lensic has presented its own shows in addition to being a community performing arts center for Santa Fe’s vast and varied arts groups. The Lensic Presents lineup promises an eclectic mix of performances, including live music, dance, comedy, theater, and more. A new Lensic Presents season opens each fall.
Tower of Power
The scorching ecstasy of Tower of Power’s horn section leads the way as this legendary band continues to punch out the soul, funk, and R&B hits that have made them music legends for over 50 years. They’ll play their classic songs including, “What Is Hip?,” “You’re Still a Young Man,” “So Very Hard to Go,” and “You Ought to Be Having Fun.”
Hailing from Oakland, the band’s prolific career has included backing iconic artists including Otis Redding, Elton John, Santana, the Grateful Dead, John Lee Hooker, Aerosmith, and Bonnie Raitt. In the process, they’ve defined an instantly recognizable “Oakland soul” sound.
The Wailin’ Jennys
One of today’s top folk groups, Canadian trio The Wailin’ Jennys creates some of the most critically acclaimed and exciting music on the folk-roots scene. Band members Nicky Mehta, Ruth Moody, and Heather Masse have three distinct voices that together make a deeply emotional vocal sound.
The Wailin’ Jennys exploded onto the roots music scene in 2004 after their first full-length album was released. Bolstered by frequent appearances on Garrison Keillor’s iconic public radio show, “A Prairie Home Companion,” The Wailin’ Jennys have gained a devoted following with their otherworldly harmonies and sophisticated arrangements.
