Three extraordinary musicians—Jennifer Gilbert, the concertmaster of the Orchestre National de Lyon; Alan Gilbert, the renowned chief conductor of Hamburg’s NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra who here shares his talents as a violist; and Paul Watkins, the distinguished cellist of the recently retired Emerson String Quartet—take listeners into a stunning alternative sound world for one of the most beloved works in the chamber music repertoire: Bach’s Goldberg Variations, performed here in an arrangement for string trio.
