Odyssey

Odysseus just wants to go home. After a decade of fighting the Trojan War, one more thing stands between him and his wife Penelope: a fantastical voyage packed with monsters, magic, and mayhem. In this vibrant youth opera by composer Ben Moore and librettist Kelley Rourke, commissioned by The Glimmerglass Festival, rising talents of the National Youth Opera Academy bring Homer’s ancient epic roaring to life. Journey with Odysseus as he escapes the drowsy spell of the Lotus-Eaters, outwits the one-eyed Cyclops, survives the wrath of Poseidon, resists the bewitching sorceress Circe, and sails past the deadly song of the Sirens, all while the wise and faithful Penelope holds off suitors back in Ithaca. Told through a soaring, playful score, Odyssey is a fast-paced, comedic introduction to one of the oldest stories ever told, making it fun for the whole family!

This performance is presented by the National Youth Opera Academy in collaboration with the Young Voices of the Santa Fe Opera, one of the nation’s premier training programs for talented young artists interested in a future in classical music.
