Philip Glass Ensemble: Powaqqatsi Live
Experience director Godfrey Reggio’s Powaqqatsi on the big screen as the acclaimed Philip Glass Ensemble performs the soundtrack live. Five years after Reggio stunned audiences with his remarkable, non-narrative film Koyaanisqatsi, he again joined forces with composer Philip Glass for a second chapter: Powaqqatsi is the most intensely spiritual segment of Reggio’s philosophical and visually stunning Qatsi Trilogy.
The Philip Glass Ensemble (PGE), founded in 1968 in New York City, is the principal performing group dedicated to the music of Philip Glass. Created as a laboratory for his groundbreaking compositions, the ensemble developed a distinctive performance practice to meet the technical and artistic demands of his work. Over more than five decades, PGE has become an essential creative force behind Glass’s music, premiering and performing many of his most celebrated pieces across major concert halls and festivals worldwide, while recording extensively with leading labels.
Renowned for iconic works such as Einstein on the Beach, Music in Twelve Parts, and the soundtracks to the Qatsi film trilogy, the ensemble continues to bring its unique repertoire to new audiences while maintaining its status as the most authentic interpreter of Glass’s music.
