Stefon Harris and Blackout
A disciple of Lionel Hampton, Milt Jackson, and Bobby Hutcherson, Stefon Harris belongs to the grand lineage of vibraphonists in jazz. With Blackout, Harris has created a “scintillating ensemble that’s as versed in modern jazz as it is with rhythms, melodies, and soundscapes associated with R&B, pop, hip-hop, and funk” (Nextbop.com).
Stefon Harris’ passionate artistry, energetic stage presence, and astonishing virtuosity have propelled him into the forefront of the current jazz scene. Widely recognized and lauded by both his peers and jazz critics alike, the award-winning musician is committed to both exploring the rich potential of jazz education and blazing new trails on the vibraphone.
A graduate of Manhattan School of Music, Stefon received a B.M. in Classical Music and a M.M. in Jazz Performance. He is a recipient of the prestigious Martin E. Segal Award from Lincoln Center and has earned four Grammy nominations including Best Contemporary Jazz Album for Urbanus, Best Jazz Album for The Grand Unification Theory, and the 2001 release of Kindred and his 1999 release of Black Action Figure for Best Jazz Instrumental Solo.
