Meet the Jazz Master, Terri Lyne Carrington
*Concert ticket required to attend
Continuing a New Mexico Jazz Festival tradition, A.B. Spellman, retired National Endowment for the Arts Deputy Chairman, jazz historian, and poet presents a pre-concert conversation with Terri Lyne Carrington, who performs the same evening with her Social Science ensemble. The two NEA stars are sure to enlighten and delight: in 2005, the NEA named one of its prestigious Jazz Masters awards the “A.B. Spellman NEA Jazz Masters Award for Jazz Advocacy,” and in 2021, Carrington was named an NEA Jazz Master.
Concert at 7:30 pm
Critically acclaimed and Grammy award-winning drummer, producer, and educator Terri Lyne Carrington is joined by her all-star Social Science ensemble to perform music from her latest release, Waiting Game. Described as her most audacious and politically charged project to date and celebrated as one of the best releases of 2019 by Rolling Stone, Downbeat, Boston Globe, and Popmatters, Waiting Game expresses an unflinching, inclusive, and compassionate view of humanity’s breaks and bonds through an eclectic program melding jazz, R&B, indie rock, contemporary improvisation, and hip-hop.
