YAMATO — The Drummers of Japan
YAMATO is a Japanese Taiko drumming group based in Asuka-mura, Nara Prefecture, known as the birthplace of Japan. Since forming in 1993, they have performed over 4,000 shows in 54 countries, bringing their high-energy performances to theaters, schools, events, and workshops worldwide. Splitting their time between tours in Japan and abroad, they live by the motto: “We go everywhere when somebody needs YAMATO,” sharing joy and vitality through the powerful art of Taiko.
Their performances go beyond traditional drumming, blending explosive energy with delicate musical expression—what they call “physical music.” Using more than 40 drums, including the massive 500 kg Odaiko, YAMATO creates an immersive experience where audiences don’t just watch, but feel, connect, and become part of the moment. Their shows range from intense and emotional to playful and uplifting, uniting people through rhythm, passion, and the shared experience of being fully alive.
