Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival
Mozart & Dohnányi

Schumann’s passionate and highly Romantic First Violin and Piano Sonata—written at the request of Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra Concertmaster Ferdinand David—is the centerpiece of this fiery program, and here the work showcases the virtuosity of longtime Festival collaborators Daniel Phillips (who’s appeared at the Festival every season since 1979) and pianist Soyeon Kate Lee. To open the program, Festival musicians play Mozart’s mysteriously urgent and dark-hued Viola Quintet, K. 406, while Dohnányi’s stunningly inventive Sextet, performed by an ensemble of Festival musicians that includes clarinetist David Shifrin and Berlin Philharmonic Principal Horn Stefan Dohr, brings the evening to a dramatic close.
