Winter Wassail
Bjarte Eike, director and violin
Steven Player, writer, narrator, and guitar
Emi Ferguson, flute and mezzo soprano
Bill Barclay, stage director
From whence comes our American Christmas tradition? Wassailing is ancient – it has variously meant welcoming, drinking, singing along, giving alms, or celebrating them all at once with a special mulled drink: the wassail! The acclaimed nine-piece performance ensemble Barokksolistene leads us on a merry merging of music and myth, creating a vibrant new tradition that deepens our roots to our antic past. Come sing, laugh, and recall a younger time when the nights were long, the frost was deadly, and pagan spirits and holy saints mingled in harmony.
This performance will include refreshments.
Presented in partnership with Music Before 1800.
